A STUDY IN GENESIS

Chapter 11 of Genesis is over. Human society has been dispersed. Languages, created by God, being the mechanism to push the population out. From here, the subcategories of Anthropology come about. Ethnic groups and culture identity flourish. Out of this comes one man who named Terah who is from the line of Shem. Moses, who wrote down Genesis through the help of the Holy Spirit, is identifying a special connection to this man for the main audience are the Jewish people. Terah would be the father of Abram.

Genesis 11:24-32 “Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah. 25 After he begot Terah, Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters. 26 Now Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran. 27 This [is] the genealogy of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran begot Lot. 28 And Haran died before his father Terah in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans. 29 Then Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram’s wife [was] Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah. 30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child. 31 And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there. 32 So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.”

It is here that we see the scenario play out by God. The end of Chapter 11 is a catalyst for God narrowing down His choice for bringing salvation to mankind. The next chapter of human history is being prepared, we have gone from Creation, to the Antidiluvian period, to the Flood, and even the brief period of nation building and seperating by God. We now enter a time which God starts to work through a bloodline. For Satan, the pieces are set, where as before he did not know who God would choose. Soon the devil will have a honed in target, declared by God as His tool for rescuing you and me. Abram and Sarai have entered the picture.

I hope you have enjoyed this part in our Genesis series. We will be taking a short break to hit some topical studies that I believe God is calling us to pursue but fret not, we will be going back to Genesis soon.
