Seek God
There is no getting around the fact that many in today’s world wish to silence the word of God. Many would believe that if they can only get those teaching about Jesus Christ to be silent then Christianity would simply go away. I am sure they are of the same mind as the Pharisees in Luke 19, and they should receive the same answer today. “37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” 40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:37-40.
You see, many today wish to cause born-again Christians to stop sharing the saving faith that is found in Jesus Christ, but for born-again believers we can not allow ourselves to be silent. Instead we need to take a look at Matthew 20:29-34 to see what happens when we ignore the world telling us to be silent.
“29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 32 Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. 33 “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” 34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.”
Here we have two men who were in desperate need of someone to heal them, they became aware that the Son of God was walking past and began to plead to Him. The world told them to be silent but they ignored them, instead they became louder still. With them not backing down, Jesus acknowledged their faith, had compassion on them, and made them well.
While this is a short passage, there is a key element we can learn. When the world is telling Christians to be silent and not share the gospel, we need to speak all the louder. When we do, Jesus is able to bring more to Him. Ignore the world telling you to be silent and instead keep the focus on Jesus Christ; because even if no one else is declaring Him, the very stones will.
Seek the truth and encourage one another,
